Special Offerings
During the year there are special offering opportunities when our congregation contributes generously to special offerings that support important mission and outreach partners:

-
Souper Bowl of Caring (February)
On Super Bowl Sunday, Westminster joins forces with the nonprofit organization “Tackle Hunger” to raise money for the Souper Bowl of Caring. Our funds go to the Greenwood Soup Kitchen, feeding the hungry right here in our own community!

-
Camperships for Camp Fellowship (March)
Camperships help children attend camp who might not otherwise have the opportunity—often for the very first time. Since 2018, Camp Fellowship has operated on a voluntary three-tier payment schedule and promises never to turn a camper away because of an inability to pay. Camp is a life-changing experience, but it is costly to provide. Your generosity helps ensure that every child who wants to attend can do so.

-
One Great Hour of Sharing (Eastertide)
The three programs supported by One Great Hour of Sharing - Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, the Presbyterian Hunger Program, and Self-Development of People - all work in different ways to serve individuals and communities in need. From initial disaster response to ongoing community development, their work fits together to provide people with safety, sustenance, and hope.
-
Presbyterian Communities of South Carolina (Mother’s Day)
This offering has been a special way of remembering and caring for older adults since 1954. The monies received from the Mother’s Day Offering are used exclusively for those residents who, through no fault of their own, have outlived their financial resources and need assistance to remain in Presbyterian Communities.
-
Joe Gettys Scholarship Fund for Theological Education
In September, Westminster receives a special offering for the Dr. Joseph M. Gettys Scholarship for students
attending the Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, GA. The Dr. Joseph M. Gettys Scholarship was established in 2003 by Westminster Presbyterian Church in memory of Dr. Joe. It is awarded to students at Columbia Theological Seminary (from which our very own Caroline Dennis graduated!) who intend to become PC(USA) pastors.

-
Thornwell Home (Thanksgiving)
Monies from this special collection support Thornwell Home, a nonprofit ministry committed to the most innovative and effective solutions to heal, strengthen, and empower children and families.
-
Christmas Joy Offering (Christmastide)
This Offering addresses the support needed by some of our leaders, including supporting leadership development for communities of color, and providing support for Presbyterian church workers in their time of need.

"Each one should give as he has determined in his heart, not reluctantly or under pressure, for God loves a cheerful giver."
