Welcome to Westminster!

Your friends at Westminster want you to feel as comfortable as possible when you are visiting with us. You can find answers to several frequently asked questions by scrolling through this page. And of course, you are encouraged to call our office (864.229.3595) if you need additional information. We are so glad you are here!

  • Who will I meet?

    • You'll find all kinds of folks here at Westminster! As with many churches, we have a good number of adult families and retirees. Our youth program is growing! Most are students in their early teens. Families with young children (nursery provided) and assorted singles and couples round out the group. God loves every individual that He created with all their unique qualities, and so do we. This means you

  • What should I wear?

    • Come as you are! You won't see the fashion police patrolling at Westminster. Instead, you'll see everything from blue jeans and sneakers to dressy dresses and heels. What's in your heart is what's important, not what's on your back.

  • What if I don't know what to do?

    • No worries! Every Sunday can be a little bit different, even for old-timers. And so, every Sunday, you'll be given a bulletin that contains a list of all activities of worship that particular day. Generally, the bulletin includes the words we speak together, numbers to find hymns in the hymnals, Bible passages being discussed, and announcements about what's happening in the coming week. And during the service, you can just follow the crowd to know when to stand and when to sit.

  • What kind of music will I hear?

    • Most of the time, our music is pretty traditional, so you will usually hear organ music and hymns that are familiar to folks who've worshiped with any Protestant denomination. Of course, we also learn new songs along the way, and love to occasionally spice up the proceedings with special music of various types--everything from guitar to harmonica to harp. We hope to start a choir program. And while we don't have a praise band, you never know what we'll be exploring next!

  • What if Communion (The Lord's Supper) is served?

    • Communion is a shared "meal" that we celebrate to remind ourselves of the sacrifice Jesus Christ made for us when He was crucified. As we sometimes sing during this celebration, "This is God's table, it's not yours or mine." Christ invites all who trust in Him to share the feast that He has prepared. Here at Westminster, you will notice that we typically pass the elements (the bread and the wine...or in our case, gluten-free wafers and grape juice) to the congregation on a plate. Take one, pass the plate, and hold on to your portion until everyone has been served. Then we will all partake at the same time.

  • What if I'm not sure what I believe?

    • Then you've come to the right place. As you worship at Westminster, you--along with everyone here--will continually learn more about God and His promises, His Son, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit who is with us always. Listen, ask questions, challenge what you hear, and equip yourself to be an effective seeker of truth. And as you grow in knowledge and understanding, join with us in striving to put our beliefs into action and to live the life God calls us to live.
